Hello North Portland Families!

For those of you that don't already have Memorial Day plans, we'd like to invite you and your child to an open Skill Building/Baseball and Softball Scrimmage on Monday.  We plan on gathering around noon and getting started with scrimmage games at 12:30.  We’ll wrap up the day by participating in the first-ever T-Mobile Little League® Home Run Derby!

A few years ago we took advantage of the holiday to provide an opportunity for the younger players to play a little ball and mingle with the older kids in the league.  It's a great opportunity for them to see what they have to look forward to.  They draw great excitement from playing with the older players, and the older players enjoy mentoring the younger ones!  We started out with about 30 kids with more and more participating  every year. This is a very informal event and can evolve during the day depending on the number of kids who attend and the age breakdown of those who show up.

Parents and Coaches:

• A lot of families bring BBQ's and picnics to the field and you are more than welcome to do so (the League does not provide food for this event). 
• We have the park reserved all day.
• The league is providing the baseball/softball piece of the event.
• We encourage teams to work together and organize food and refreshments amongst themselves so no one is left out!

Baseball/Softball Details:

• We start with some light warm ups and go through ground balls, fly balls, and some batting practice. 
• After warm-ups we split up the kids into teams and have a light scrimmage. 
• We don't let the older ones pitch to the younger ones or vice versa for safety’s sake.

• Coastal - Farm game - 12:30 - 1:30
• Minors - Majors game - 1:45 - 3:15
• T-Mobile Little League® Home Run Derby - 3:30

To participate in the home run Derby:

• Please wear your uniform!
• Please fill out and return BOTH parts of the attatched Release form.

This is a day for families to have fun and enjoy the holiday while the kids get a chance to play some low-key ball.  It's been a fun day in the past and we hope we can keep this tradition going for many years to come.
