Tee Ball is for first-time baseball players who are league ages 4-5 (league age determination). In this Division, kids will learn fundamental T-ball skills and have lots of fun. There is no competitive element to T-Ball. Neither outs or runs are recorded. Each batter hits off a tee every inning and moves one base at a time. Expect 2 hours of games and/or practices each week (1 – 1hr practice and 1 – 1hr game).

At this level, all kids play baseball t-ball, but players who sign up for baseball are put together on teams to help develop friendships and teamwork for when they move on to play baseball at higher levels.

Single-A (Formerly Coastal) Baseball is for players league age 5-7 (league age determination). Younger players will have played one year of t-ball, while older players may be new to baseball or are otherwise not yet ready for the AA division. 

This division plays by the same rules as T-ball, but coaches pitch to players, with a Tee used after 5 pitches. Expect 2 hours of practices and/or games each week (1 – 1hr practice and 1 – 1hr game).

Double-A (AA) (formerly Farm) Baseball is for players league age 7-8 (league age determination) who are ready to begin to play a fuller game of baseball. AA is the final preparatory division before the upper divisions. This division introduces players to more of the basic rules of the game (e.g. strikeouts, fielding outs, and base running) and score keeping with a 5-run limit per inning for each team. The season typically begins with coach or machine pitch with the goal of transitioning fully to kid-pitch by the end of the season. Expect around 4 hours of practices or games per week (e.g. 1 – 2hr practice and 1 – 2hr game per week).

Triple A (AAA) (formerly Minors) Baseball is a for players league age 9-10* (league age determination). This division may also include younger players** with significant playing experience or older players who are new to the game or would otherwise be better served by waiting another year before joining the Majors division.

The AAA division is meant to allow players to utilize the skills they learned in lower divisions in a more competitive setting that utilizes almost all the rules of Baseball. There is no longer any coach involvement in game play. Walks and stolen bases are significant introductions at this level. Expect 2 to 3 two-hour practices or games per week. 

The AAA division requires attending a skills evaluation to be placed on a team. NPLL will offer two evaluation dates. Teams are drafted by the team coaches. For players who are selected to a AAA team, we do not honor coach or friend requests. NPLL will email the evaluation information as well as post the information on our Facebook page and the NPLL website.

*Players who are league age 9-14 should register for the division appropriate to their age. All players registered for AAA and above must attend evaluations. Coaches may elect to place players in a division above or below their league age based on the player's readiness and the number of teams formed.

**Players who are league age 8 and have multiple years of playing experience may elect to attend evaluations for the AAA division. Players are drafted by coaches based on these evaluations. Young players who are not drafted to a team will be assigned to the AA division.

Majors Baseball is the highest level of baseball in North Portland Little League. This division is for players league age 11-12 (league age determination). This division may also include younger players with significant playing experience.* Expect 2 to 3 two-hour practices or games per week.
